Jordan Traas brought the #79 home first at North Wilkesboro Speedway on Friday night, claiming his sixth win of the season in Round 14 of the Godsby ARCA Series. Traas started third and led 34 of 175 laps, but the real story was what unfolded at the front between Traas and polesitter John Crosby. The #73 of Crosby controlled 131 laps from the pole position and appeared on course to convert that dominance into a fourth win of the year, but with five lead changes across a caution-free afternoon, Traas found his moment when it mattered and brought it home for the victory.
Crosby settled for second after leading the field for the vast majority of the race, a result that will sting given the laps he put in up front. Tom Ringer in the #68 rounded out the podium in third, starting fifth and gaining two spots across 175 laps while leading two laps along the way. It was a clean afternoon for Ringer, who crossed the line without an incident to his name, and it marks his first podium finish in the Godsby ARCA Series. Tommy Wynne in the #71 fell three positions from his starting spot of second to finish fifth, collecting four incidents along the way in what was an otherwise incident-free race — no cautions flew across the full 175-lap distance, with six of twelve drivers completing the event with a spotless sheet.
The hard charger award belonged to Brandon Hinton in the #5, who drove from 11th on the grid all the way to fourth at the checkered flag — the most positions gained by any driver in the field. Hinton did it cleanly, with zero incidents across 175 laps, and his seventh-place-to-fourth charge through the order gave his team something to celebrate in a race where the front of the field received most of the attention.
In the standings, Jonathan Burt holds the points lead with 441, but Burt did not factor into the finishing order at North Wilkesboro. Traas's win moves him to 414 points in second, with Crosby third at 395. The gap between Burt and Traas now sits at 27 points with 10 races remaining, and Crosby trails Traas by 19 of his own, meaning the fight behind Burt is as compressed as the front of tonight's field. Brian Sousa in the #60 holds fourth in points at 387 after a ninth-place run, keeping him within striking distance of the top three as this series heads deeper into its schedule.
