Jordan Traas delivered the drive of the night at Michigan International Speedway on Monday, charging from seventh on the grid to claim victory in Round 5 of the RFRL Godsby Big 4 Series. Traas, piloting the #79, earned the hard charger honors with a six-position gain across 90 green-flag laps in a race that saw zero cautions and 14 lead changes. It was Traas's first win in the series, as the victory came with no prior wins on his record either this season or all-time in the Godsby Big 4.

Pole-sitter Seth Cooper in the #96 appeared to be the car to beat for much of the evening, leading a race-high 42 laps from his front-row starting spot. But Cooper's night ultimately ended in heartbreak at P3, as he and second-place finisher Jonathan Burt both drew 8 incident points — a sharp contrast to Traas's clean-ish run of just 2 incidents. Cooper, who had no prior wins in the series heading in, now leaves Michigan still searching for that elusive first victory after leading nearly half the race.

Jonathan Burt brought the #11 home in second place, his fifth laps led on the night a reminder that he was a factor at the front even if the race ultimately wasn't his to take. Burt enters this result as a three-time winner in the series, and while the runner-up finish doesn't add to that win tally, it did enough damage in points to keep him comfortably atop the standings with 201 points — a 31-point advantage over second-place Brian Sousa, who ran a clean race in the #60 to finish sixth. Victor Etheridge in the #6 had a difficult night, racking up a race-high 16 incident points on his way to fourth, which will concern his camp as he sits third in points at 130.

With 19 races still remaining in the season, the points picture is nowhere near settled. Burt's lead over Sousa at 31 points is meaningful but far from safe over such a long haul. The real intrigue may be further down the order — David Burcicki and Tom Ringer are separated by just one point at fourth and fifth respectively, with Burcicki's clean P5 run helping him stay in the hunt. Traas, notably, does not even appear in the top five of the standings despite tonight's victory, which underscores just how much ground the #79 team has to make up if they want to be part of the points conversation down the stretch.
